It seems that there are two camps when it comes to incorporating someone’s name into your tattoo.

The first camp thinks that it’s a great idea to demonstrate your love for someone and faith that your relationship will last.

The second thinks that it’s a ridiculous idea because they may not always been in your life, you may not always want to demonstrate your relationship with them and your tattoo should be about you, not about someone else.

Now, if you want to have your children’s names tattooed onto your skin, that would seem to be better than having your partner’s name tattooed on. And obviously, if you have recently lost a loved one, having their name tattooed onto your skin might be a lovely tribute to them. As there are so many circumstances, it would be worth taking some time to think as much as you can about the impact of having someone’s name incorporated into your tattoo design.

Verloofd IIYou should bear in mind that some tattoo artists flat out refuse to do any name tattoo designs. This is not because they don’t value and understand what you are trying to do (though this may be the reason for some!), but because traditionally, this is one of the old school tattoo designs which causes such controversy of opinion. It is the one tattoo which, throughout the tattooing world, is the number one tattoo which people ask to have removed.

If you decide that you want to incorporate someone’s name, it is probably best to go for something small and subtle, with an intriguing design surrounding it. Subtlty is usually best in these circumstances, and the pattern surrounded the name(s) will ensure that you can cover the names up if you wish to later on.

Just remember: if you want to do it, you should do it!

Angels are beautiful. They represent innocence and purity.

As such, they are a popular design used in tattoos. There are lots of different designs to choose from. Most obviously, there are lots of cherub designs which can be incorporated. In addition, there are plenty of angels wings which can be used. They can also be combined with other elements too, like a heart.

heartCherubs are cute if you like pictures of angels. If you prefer tattoos which do not contain pictures of people, angel wing tattoos are great for you. Indeed, they are perfect as a lower back tattoo design because they are symmetrical and are perfectly shaped to be placed on your lower back.

Angel tattoo designs are great for your lower back. Because they represent such innocent concepts, they can look really cute. However, it’s important for the design to be subtle and perhaps less colorful (with lighter shading) than the usual lower back tattoo designs. This ensures that the tattoo itself reflects what it is supposed to represent.

Eagle Tattoo Designs

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Old School Tattoo Designs

Eagles are awesome creatures! They are powerful, ferocious, graceful and symbolic. Having an eagle as your lower back tattoo is a great way of emphasizing your femininity, whilst making sure everyone knows they can’t take you for a fool. Eagles rule! What’s more, having an eagle tattoo is really patriotic, especially given our boys fighting overseas!

eagle_drawingHowever, there are many eagle tattoo designs to choose from. Because you only have one lower back (!), it is vital that you make an informed choice and are passionate about the design you eventually decide upon.

The process of finding your tattoo is not as straightforward as it once was. It will be hard for you to find an original design unless you invest time and effort. Thankfully, this site has done all of the legwork for you!

It contains a mammouth library of designs you can check out at your leisure, whenever you want. Not only that, but it has a members forum, where you can chat with other people searching for their tattoos, and where you can exchange ideas and get inspiration. This is perfect if you aren’t certain about your exact design. It also has an extensive members gallery where members shows off their tats (therefore giving you another huge resource of images to get ideas from), as well as videos and a really helpful tool to find tattoo parlors closest to you.

The key thing about using these sorts of sites is that you can use it however you want. If you want to dip in and grab a design, you can. If you’d prefer to hang out, chat, maybe make some friends, it’s perfect for that too (you may get hooked!). Many people use them as a base to find inspiration and ideas, which they then use to come up with their own unique designs. It’s completely up to you!

Cross Tattoo Design

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Old School Tattoo Designs

Of all the old school tattoo designs, the cross tattoo is one of the most popular.

It is usually viewed as one of the old school designs, because it has been around for so long. Despite being most famous for its connections to various religions to mark deities or sacrifice, it is also very widely used in nautical symbols and the flags of countries. Therefore, if you are considering incorporating a cross tattoo design, you would be well advised to do some research to ensure your cross means what you intend it to mean!

Cross Made Of ScriptIt is a very simple shape, but there are so many ways in which it can form part of a tattoo. When women first started adorning their lower backs with cross tattoos, there was a view that such a practice was inappropriate and unsavoury. However, this view is not so strongly held now, both because of the prevalence of crosses in lower back tattoos and because of a growing realization that not all crosses have to mark religious convictions.

Nevertheless, if you do decide that you would like to incorporate a religious cross into the design of your lower back tattoo, it is easy for such a design to be tasteful by using a relatively small cross. The danger with a cross is that it may appear to be going too far down – if you are aware of this danger, it is easy to avoid.

Try to think about your tattoo in terms of your own personality. Are you drawn to a particular shape, which can be incorporated into your cross design? Are there any other elements that you think you could include in your design, e.g. could the shape be made from letters? If you are drawn to more than one design, play about with overlapping or integrating those designs with each other; this is sure to help your design be as individual as possible.

It is important for tattoos to be personal and unique, so invest sufficient time to ensure this is so.

Old School Tattoo Designs

When you’re on the cusp of narrowing down all of the lower back tattoo designs that appeal to you, you should make sure that you’ve also considered the traditional tattoo designs (better known as the ‘old school tattoo designs’).

Sure, some people love the new tribal symbol they’ve just created, but what about the tattoos that have stood the test of time? Surely, the old school tattoo designs are old school and still around because they are popular?

RosesObviously, not all of the old school designs will be appropriate for your lower back. Let’s take an obvious example like a skull.

Many thousands of people have been inked on their arms, shoulders, chests and upper backs with skulls, but a big skull in the middle of your lower back may not be the best choice unless that’s exactly what you’re after (and who am I to question that?).

If you’re set on skulls, how about a procession of tiny skulls marching across your lower back in a sweeping and symmetrical arch? How about having each of those skulls with a slightly different facial expression? Are they all black or are some colored?

A couple of excellent old school designs that would be good choices for your lower back (without many changes) are barbed wire and rose stems. They could be gently curving around the small of your back and caress the top of your butt. The barbed wire would be in great contrast to the femininity of its placing, and rose stems would be an excellent way to accentuate femininity, but accompany it with some less vulerable notes. After all, what woman is vulnerable all of the time?

What I’m getting at is that you can seek inspiration from the old school designs and make them into something more unique for you. Now go have some fun!
