Feminine Tattoo Designs

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

The traditional image of tattoos is of inked-up pirates pillaging ships and ports, dazing the locals with their blurry anchor tattoos. Well, at least, that’s the image one of my friend’s daughters used to have!

It’s true that the tattoo industry and tattoos in general are quite male-dominated areas, but it’s far from true that only men should have tattoos. Indeed, throughout history, women have decorated themselves with an array of materials, including inks. As such, if you’re female and want a tattoo, go for it (assuming you’re of age!).
One thing I love about tattoos is the contrast and juxtaposition they provide. A muscle-bound man can experience the sensation of having a tattoo inked on his skin, yet such tattoo could be a teddy bear! Likewise, women are free to choose whichever sort of tattoo they want, whether it be a more traditional tattoo, or a more feminine one.
If you’re considering having a lower back tattoo, it’s worth considering some of the feminine tattoo designs out there. There are so many to choose from; one for everyone! The small of our back is a very sensuous, delicate area, and an area which is supposed to be the centre of our feminine creative energy. As such, being tattooed with a correspondingly feminine design would be quite a good idea. If you choose a tattoo which is curved and which matches the flow of your hips, you’re also almost guaranteed to reduce the relative size of your hips (a place all of us would perhaps like to be reduced!).
There are so many feminine tattoo designs to choose from. Off the top of my head, there are flowers (lotus, roses, bluebells, to name just three), butterflies (whether regular species or fantastical versions), fairies, tribal shapes, etc. There will definitely be one that you fall in love with!

Questions, questions! My friends often ask me about my tattoos and whether they should get more/some too.

Obviously, having a tattoo is a personal decision, but as a tattoo enthusiast, I say to them that it’s very satisfying to see an image in your mind become something alive and moving on your skin. However, this isn’t always the case.

Aalto cookie cutterHow many of us have seen the generic, cookie-cutter type of tattoos on the people we pass in the streets? I’m talking about the ones that everyone has. For me, being tattooed is all about yourself and not about other people, which is why I really encourage anyone looking at lower back tattoo designs to consider using some custom tattoo designs.

This is because the best tattoo designs are those that the wearer has invested a lot of time and thought into. If you were going to wear the same pair of pants for life, you’d want to make sure they fit you properly and looked good!

Start off with an image in your head and brainstorm all things connected with it on a piece of paper. If you can, visit some tattoo salons and discuss your ideas with the tattoo artists. Try to be as specific as possible, as you want to ensure that they see you as a serious contender for their art, but also that you are not just another guinea pig for them to try out their latest creations. Creative input from them is great and should be well received, but you must ensure that you are the driving force behind your tattoo as you will be the one who has to wear it after it’s inked on.

Speak to friends who have had tattoos inked on and see what they say: do they regret their tattoo? what would they have done differently? Give yourself as much information as possible to be as well informed as you can. The results will speak for themselves!

Tattoo Symbols

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Tattoo Symbols

Pictures, names and animals are all very popular and can be incorporated into many lower back tattoo designs. However, over the last decade or so, many more people have moved away from objects inked onto their skin. These people have seen the benefits of inking on tattoo symbols.

So, what is a tattoo symbol? Well, strictly speaking, there are many types of tattoo symbols around. There are some old school tattoo symbols which include the generic objects like a skull, roses, patriotic symbols and the like. And there are some symbols which are comprised of foreign languages or tribal symbols.

Foreign languages, including Chinese and Japanese, are very popular choices as the symbols are beautiful. As you have decided to tattoo your lower back, you have the option of incorporating more than one symbol (and the option of having such symbols connected in whatever curvaceous way you choose).

the processAs discussed previously, when choosing a symbol to have inked-on, make sure you check and check and check what the symbol means. There’s an old story of a famous car manufacturer who started selling cars in a non-English speaking country. They used the same car brand and didn’t check if the car brand had a particular meaning in this foreign country. This was a big mistake as the brand of car meant “won’t go” in the local language. Naturally, the car didn’t sell very well!

This is equally important for you. Imagine going away to an exotic destination for your vacation and stripping down to your bikini on the beach only to be laughed at/screamed at/burnt alive (ok, the last one we jest – hopefully!) because your tattoo has a particular meaning in your vacation’s destination.

To reduce the problem of having to have vacations in places where the meaning of your tattoo is not impolite, do some research beforehand.

Rose Tattoo Designs

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Rose Tattoo Designs

There are few flowers more beautiful, more scented or more symbolic than a rose. Their deep red petals, curving seductively above a stem of harsh thorns, are given to lovers and dear friends as a sign of love.

close upOn stage, on screen and in the street, you will have seen many examples of women with rose tattoos. You will therefore appreciate the huge array of different rose tattoo designs to choose from. They can be whatever size you want.

Roses are an excellent tattoo to have inked on your lower back. The femininity of the petals, along with their color and beauty are a perfect accompaniment to the sensuous curves of your lower back. It is a personal choice whether their stems with sharp thorns are included in the design, but I would recommend that they are for two reasons.

The first is that the stem can provide some curve to cover the width of the tattoo. Roses (whether colored or not) can populate the length of the stem or could be located purely in the centre, in the small of your back. If you choose not to include a stem, you will be restricting the size of your tattoo, but if you are after a smaller tattoo on your lower back, this is one of the rose tattoo designs you might want to consider.

The second is that the thorny stem is a beautiful contract to not only the soft elegance of the rose, but also to the soft femininity of a very tender and private area of your body. It shows that you are strong yet feminine.

Many people are undecided as to whether their rose tattoo should incorporate color. Obviously, it’s your tattoo, but I would suggest that color be kept to a minimum. It’s much more beautiful to see a colorless stem accompanied by beautifully stark colored petals. If you are having more than one flower-head, you might consider designs which limit the color to appearing on just one of the flower-heads. Less can be more.

Old School Tattoo Designs

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Old School Tattoo Designs

When you’re on the cusp of narrowing down all of the lower back tattoo designs that appeal to you, you should make sure that you’ve also considered the traditional tattoo designs (better known as the ‘old school tattoo designs’).

Sure, some people love the new tribal symbol they’ve just created, but what about the tattoos that have stood the test of time? Surely, the old school tattoo designs are old school and still around because they are popular?

RosesObviously, not all of the old school designs will be appropriate for your lower back. Let’s take an obvious example like a skull.

Many thousands of people have been inked on their arms, shoulders, chests and upper backs with skulls, but a big skull in the middle of your lower back may not be the best choice unless that’s exactly what you’re after (and who am I to question that?).

If you’re set on skulls, how about a procession of tiny skulls marching across your lower back in a sweeping and symmetrical arch? How about having each of those skulls with a slightly different facial expression? Are they all black or are some colored?

A couple of excellent old school designs that would be good choices for your lower back (without many changes) are barbed wire and rose stems. They could be gently curving around the small of your back and caress the top of your butt. The barbed wire would be in great contrast to the femininity of its placing, and rose stems would be an excellent way to accentuate femininity, but accompany it with some less vulerable notes. After all, what woman is vulnerable all of the time?

What I’m getting at is that you can seek inspiration from the old school designs and make them into something more unique for you. Now go have some fun!

One of the most popular lower back tattoo designs is to have a lower back butterfly tattoo.

As you can appreciate, these are more the preserve of women (but if you’re a man and you want a lower back butterfly tattoo, then go for it!).

FINALLY FINISHED!Butterflies are a unique symbol across the world of evolution and beauty. They start as small, ugly little green slug-like creatures, yet become something beautiful, colorful and full of grace. They are delicate and precious, and come in many many hundreds of different colors. This provides furtive ground for making your choice.

The best place to start choosing your new tattoo is the internet. You should check out different sorts of butterflies and print out pictures of ones your find attractive. You should bear in mind that your skin tone will make each color look slightly different, and it’s important to focus on the fact that, whilst your friends may prefer one sort of tattoo, you are the person who will be living with it, so you are the person who has to be happy with your choice.

Obviously, you do not have to have a butterfly tattoo on your lower back, but your lower back is an ideal place to have it given the sensuous curves of your hips and upper butt. The wings of your butterfly can mirror your curves and, in many cases, can be used to accentuate your curves whilst reducing the perception of size – they draw the eyes inwards!

Many women choose to have a lower back butterfly tattoo because of the beauty of such a creature. However, in making this decision, they are also allowing themselves to be inked with a symbol of grace and and delicacy in an intimate area of their body. It symbolizes their femininity and, having such a delicate creature behind them, heightens the sense of fragility.

In short, a butterfly tattoo on your lower back is a very feminine tattoo to have.

Lower Back Tribal Tattoos

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Lower Back Tribal Tattoos

If you’re considering having a tattoo inked onto your skin, there are two main things you need to decide on first of all (before choosing which tattoo salon to be inked at):

  • which body part should be inked?

AND

  • what should you be inked with?

Obviously, I’m mad crazy about lower back tattoos (hence why this site is all about lower back tattoo designs!), so I’m biased and reckon you should have your lower back inked! If you’re thinking about being inked elsewhere (gasp!), you should make your choice based on what you feel most comfortable with. Discuss it with your partner, your friends and the trusty professionals from the tattoo salon you decide to ink you.

In terms of what you should be inked with, it’s key to ensure that you are 100% happy with your choice. Many people have logos or names inked on, only to regret them after a few years/months/days!

However, choosing to have a tribal tattoo on your lower back is an excellent idea. There’s a huge selection of different lower back tribal tattoos to choose from (and your local tattoo salon will have many, many examples for you to take a look at).

Where do you start? Well, it’s obviously important for you to like the look of the tattoo you set your heart on.

tattoo PhoenixYou could go for a genuine tribal tattoo (i.e. one used in an ancient African/Asian/etc tribe). If you do this, you should bear in mind that many of the tribal tattoos you will see in books and on other people have particular meanings, so you must check (double-check and then check again!) to ensure that you know exactly what your tattoo means, and whether you are happy to have that meaning inked across your lower back. Try as they may, not all tattoo salons will have accurate records 100% of the time, so do your own research as you will be the one with the message stamped across your back!

If you decide to go for a ‘tribal themed’ tattoo (i.e. one you or the tattoo salon have created as a custom tattoo design), then you should still check to ensure it doesn’t have any hidden meanings (or, if it does, that you are happy with them).

Lower back tribal tattoos can be delicate works of art, so make sure you do lots of research to ensure you never regret the tattoo you set your heart on!

Custom Tattoo Designs

by Lower Back Tattoo Designs

in Custom Tattoo Designs

Body art and tattoos are all about you! That’s right: you’re the person in the driving seat. You get to choose exactly what you want to be inked with. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

However, this much choice can leave potential inkers feeling a bit overwhelmed: “where should I be inked?”, “what should I be inked with?”, “what color should the ink be?”, “who should ink me?”.

We’ve all been there. Tattoo salons are a great place to get some inspiration, and they will have plenty of designs which they’ll be prepared to customize just for you into some custom tattoo designs. Another great place is to check out the people in your local neighborhood: do they have designs that inspire you or motivate you?

However, the best resource for coming up with custom tattoo designs is… YOU! Use your imagination and be as crazy as you want – jot down ideas and sketches and then go from there. Take some time using this approach as your views may change, but take these to a tattoo salon and get some feedback from the tattoo artists. They’ve seen it all before and are an invaluable resource to help you focus your ideas and get the most from your ink.

If you set your heart on a particular type of tattoo, don’t let anyone dissuade you from getting it, but make sure you listen to what people’s comments are (particularly at the tattoo salon) to give you an idea of what feedback you may get when you have the tattoo inked onto your skin.

Even though you may intend your new tattoo to be in your lower back region, it doesn’t mean that no one will see it! When choosing your favorite lower back tattoo designs, be sure to choose a tattoo that you feel comfortable with showing people.
